For Chase "Startled Cat" Matching Bookends. Original 1932 American Art Deco solid brass startled cat bookends designed by Walter Von Nessen for Chase. They are solid copper and brass construction in the exceedingly rare satin Nickel finish with Charcoal Black base version.
Both Cats are clearly marked with the Chase centaur on the back leg along with the patent information located on the charcoal base. Beautifully designed, the pair of abstract Startled Cats are wonderful examples of Art Deco Moderne styling.
Last photo shows original patent information from 1932. Bookends are beautiful and in. Original un-restored condition with some acceptable wear and scratches consistent with age and use.
The nickel finish is still very much intact with some wear on the back leg of one of the cats along with some scratches. Please see all large photos for condition and ask for more photos if needed.
