This listing is for a beautiful pair of Pottery Elephant Bookends. I believe they might be an early Cowan. I can't say it definitively as I can't find them in the books. Guy Cowan and his staff produced over 850 different shapes and used over 160 different glazes.
These elephants were designed in the highly coveted original ivory glaze by R. Guy Cowan and Walter Sinz in 1925. They measure 6" long x 5" tall. They are not marked on the bottom but you can still see the tool marks.
One is heavier than the other probably due to a more liberal packing of the mold. They are in excellent condition with some all-over crazing. A super Art Deco pair of rare bookends!
