Rare limited-edition Cowan Pottery sculpture "Chinese Horse" (1930), designed by R. Guy Cowan's son, Ralph Howard Cowan, while a teenager (and with some assistance from Waylande Gregory). Glazed in a matrix glaze called Foliage, which is a speckled and fluid mixture of rusty brown and mustard yellow.
Study the photos closely, and you may see a couple of small areas (on the neck/mane and on his left eyebrow) where the glaze is a little thin. These are factory, and they're also not noticeable because the glossy glaze captures and reflects light anyway. For more information about this piece, please see COWAN POTTERY AND THE CLEVELAND SCHOOL.
