This is an incredible work of art by Sylvia Hood. I know of only one other cat in existence, and its ears are broken off. Molded/ carved from Sylvia's husband's custom chalkware, (excote) this beautiful Egyptian/Asian looking cat stands 16 in tall, is 6 in side to side and 9 in front to back. Beautifully done in dark browns and bronzes.
There's some metallic to it, but it's more of an illusion. I believe this piece was bought in Pasadena in the early'60s, was transported home to Western Pennsylvania and sat in the same spot since then. There is very little damage with the exception of his left front foot/ paw. If you look closely you can see where some of the excote is broken away. Also it appears that some one who painted the ceiling did not bother to cover him.
There are little flecks of white paint on him. Have a look at my other Holiday, vintage, unusual & collectible listings; I'm always finding interesting things! I do what I can to re-use / recycle packing material and will package your treasure with the utmost care.
