Vintage Art Deco Cat Jumping Statue Alloy Beautiful Visual Art Rare White Metal. Vintage Art Deco Cat Jumping Metal Sculpture that is precisely balanced on it's Pole and Deco Base and truly represents a Cat's beauty. This Beautiful Visual Art piece was done by Edward F. Widstrom was elected in 1949 to the National Sculpture Society. Dear Kivaho, Just thought you'd like to know that this sculpture was done by my uncle, Edward Widstrom, sometime in the 1940s likely. Etched on the cat stands for International Silver Smiths--before International was incorporated as the International Silver Company.

The company was based in Meriden CT, where my aunt and uncle lived. My Uncle worked as a silverware designer for International from the mid'30s until he retired in the mid-1960s. He also attended The Art Students League in NYC in late 1929 till the early 30s.

I could go on and on, but suffice to say this cat sat on Uncle Ed's console TV in his studio throughout my childhood. The metal, incidentally, is not bronze. It is an alloy my uncle simply referred to as "white metal, " which was 88% tin, mixed with antimony, copper and cadmium. It was what was under silverplate. From the niece note I received above explaining in great detail about this Cat Sculpture's History you can understand the rarity of this Piece and why it's eye's look so cool(the white shiny metal) As you can see in the pics he signed the underside of this pieceE.

Along with the International Sliver Smith's forge Initials I. Which I didn't even notice was there until I was taking these pic's and I have owned this piece for a few years now. The base bottom also has his address tag still attached. Very Sturdy well made piece No Corners Cut, its a true Master Piece in my opinion.

How it's so balanced is a mystery to me and how he did it-only he would know. If you look at the last couple pictures you will see it on the scale and how much it weights in total, and then I carefully laid just the cat down on the scale to show you what it weights by it self. This is such a Beautiful Visual Piece of Art and I have enjoyed it immensely.

It's very very stable and will not fall over. The Cat & pole will spin freely from the base and no matter what direction the Cat is facing on the base it will not fall over. (the nut on the bottom of the base will not come loose either) The Cat and the Pole are Non Magnetic but the bottom nut under base is Magnetic. It's a very nice size at 20"&1/2 inches tall and the Cat's length is right at 19" inches long.

The Base is solid wood from what I can tell by looking at the bottom. "Condition Description" All wood base has a few light nicks and a small tight split on bottom edge but no loose wood at this spot you have to look to find it(see close up of it with ruler in front of it). Base also has aging to it's surface's. Metal Sculpture has no damage and no repairs.

Please study all pictures very closely so you have a very good visual description from the 23 pictures I provided. It will be Double Boxed and Padded and wrapped in a soft wrapping tissue paper. We always put extra effort into our packaging. So don't worry It will be done right and the box will be marked "Fragile" and I will even pay extra for the "Fragile Yellow Sticker Service" offered by the Post Office so it's treated far and above with extreme care-more than what a normal package gets.
